How to use this free Mining Carbon Calculator

Multiply annual diesel litres by the selected diesel emissions factor and purchased grid electricity by its grid factor. Convert kilograms to tonnes CO₂e and divide by the selected production units to screen intensity.

Who this helps

Mine operators, researchers, students and sustainability practitioners.

Example application

Compare how a site’s entered diesel consumption and purchased electricity contribute to a screening inventory before a formal GHG Protocol-based calculation..

Limits and interpretation

The output is a practical starting point, not a verified professional assessment. Confirm the facts, jurisdiction, assumptions and intended purpose before using any result for a consequential decision.

Frequently asked questions

Is the calculator a certified carbon inventory?

No. It screens two operational sources and excludes many possible emissions categories. Validate scopes, factors, organisational boundaries and data before external disclosure.

Are the default emission factors authoritative everywhere?

No. They are editable screening assumptions. Use factors appropriate to the fuel, country, reporting year and your inventory standard.

Can I compare sites?

Only where boundaries, production units, factor years and operational conditions are consistent.
